MDeC Training Program for MMU, Melaka (3rd Batch) - (Part 1)

June 2007, we conducted the MDeC K-Workers training program for the 3rd batch of University Undergraduates. This time we conducted the program for MMU Melaka students (again...)...but I would have to say that this batch of students were slightly different as compared to the 1st batch of MMU students we trained last year....This particular group of students were absolutely FANTASTIC ! Most of them have very good attitudes towards life...and most importantly, they're very willing to learn. I honestly believe this particular group of students will have a bright future and they'll definitely go very far in their lives...

As usual, I conducted the "Innovation & Creativity" module...but this time I had my very good friend and training partner, Ee Hock Seng co-train with me. I'm not going to bore all of you with more of my babbling and boring text, but suffice to say, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves during this program! So, below are some of the photos we took during the training. Enjoy!
~

~
That's me!
~

~
And that's my very good friend and co-trainer, Mr. Ee Hock Seng conducting one of the sessions...he's a man with a very big heart and he's very fun to be with...
~

~
This time we tried something different...Instead of just using magic and mind-boggling puzzles to help unleash the creativity within the students...we also used very creative ways to teach the students how to count from 1 to 100 in Japanese....in under 10 minutes...(mind you, all of these students have no prior knowledge of the Japanese language). Just in case you're wondering what they're doing here, they're actually scratching their knee because it's itchy...*all of them having itchy knees at the same time??* YES...haha...well...actually NO...they're just using some creative linking methods to link the first 2 numbers to something they're familiar with. 1 in Japanese is ICHI, and 2 is NI. When you put them together, it sounds like "Itchy Knee"...

Just FYI, 1 to 10 in Japanese is:-

1 - Ichi
2 - Ni
3 - San
4 - Shi
5 - Go
6 - Roco
7 - Shi - Chi
8 - Hachi
9 - Kyu
10 - Ju

I'm not going to go into the details of how this is done, but if you're interested to find out how to do it, ATTEND THE TRAINING! haha...just joking. If you're interested to find out how to do it, just ask me out for a date...and I'll share it with you...this offer is open to ladies only...haha...as for guys, just give me a call, I'd be more than happy to share this with you... (if you buy me lunch!)
~

~
8 is Hachi...notice their hand gestures...the egg is Hatching...
~

~
10 is Ju...

1 to 100 in under 10 minutes...and all of them could remember it even after 2 days...no sweat!

This technique was actually taught to me by my dear friend and training partner Mr. Jeyaraman a.k.a. the Memory Man. This man has got fantastic memory! Jeya and I conduct public programs together to teach students how to significantly improve their memory and remember facts & information easily. During our program, we also share study techniques and mind-mapping techniques with the students to significantly reduce the time they need to do revision...and at the same time improve their results in exams so that they can have more time to develop themselves in other areas of their life (i.e. leadership, communication skills...etc...), which in my opinion, is equally important, if not more important than exam results.

~

~
As usual, we did the 'Egg Game'...This is the first group with their work of art...
~

~
A closer look at their structure...Looks solid and nice eh? Wonder if it'll prevent the egg from breaking.....
~

~
This is the 2nd group with their masterpiece...rather spikey struture they have...wonder if those spikes serve any purpose....or are they just for decoration?
~

~
A closer look at group #2's masterpiece...
~

~
And this is group #3, with their erm....structure?
~

~
A closer look at their...structure... looks more like a creative art piece...a very creative and beautiful piece of art...
~

~
This is group #4...with their.................erm.......straw bag?...
~

~
A closer look at the...Straw Bag structure....
~

Well, that's all for this posting. In the next posting, we'll see how the students launched the egg and which group's 'structure' managed to prevent the egg from breaking...till then, Ciao!....

Napoleon Hill International Convention - Putrajaya International Convention Centre

"WHATEVER THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE, THE MIND CAN ACHIEVE"
~
- Napoleon Hill, Author of the Best-Selling Classic 'Think & Grow Rich' -

March 12th & 13th, 2007...Napoleon Hill Associates Malaysia organized their FIRST ever International Convention at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Before I proceed further, for the benefit of those who do not know, or have not heard of Dr. Napoleon Hill, allow me to give you a brief introduction to the person who spent 20 years of his life researching why successful people are successful and why unsuccessful people remain unsuccessful...

Born in the Wise county of Virginia, Dr. Napoleon Hill is regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of the century. When he was in his early twenties, he was asked by the then richest man in America, Andrew Carnegie, whether he would be willing to dedicate 20 years or more of his life to discover the Secrets to Success. Of course, Dr. Napoleon Hill accepted the offer by Andrew Carnegie with nothing more than letters of recommendation to meet and interview 500 of the most successful Americans alive during his days. After dedicating more than 20 years of his life to finding the Secrets to Success, Dr. Napoleon Hill published an eight volume set of motivational books in 1928 entitled 'The Laws of Success' and later the renowned book entitled 'Think & Grow Rich', which has sold more than 25 million copies worldwide and continues to appear on the list of top business books. Since then, his books have inspired millions worldwide to achieve greater success for themselves.

Ok, back to the convention...some of the speakers invited to speak at the convention are Bob Proctor, Vic Conant, Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones, Martin Dunkerton, Henry Holden, Joe louis Dudley, and many more...

~
This is me with Vic Conant, President and CEO of Nightingale-Conant Corporation, the world's largest producer and publisher of personal development products and services. Vic has worked with more self-improvement authors than any other human being alive today and he has spent his entire adult life immersed in the Self Improvement Industry. He spoke on 'The Power of Personal Initiative in Business Success'. It was a real pleasure and honor meeting him.
~

~
This is Ms. Minli Lee (a training partner of mine) and me, with Dr. Joe Louis Dudley. He spoke on 'Applied Faith in Entrepreneurship'. I like the way he shares his ideas. Extremely passionate and powerful! From the way he delievered his talk, you know that he has really gone through a lot of adversities and defeats before getting to where he is now. And despite all the adversities and defeats, he still managed to rise above it all. I have great respect for him. He really knows his stuff! Anyway, just a little bit about him:-

Wrongly labeled mentally retarded as a child due to a speech impediment, Dr. Joe Louis Dudley has risen to unimaginable heights from the three-room farmhouse where he was born. Combining his education at North Carolina A&T State University with his career experience, and starting with US$10 or roughly RM35, Dudley founded Dudley Products, an enterprise that has grown from a small business to a well-respected multinational company. He now operates several multi-million dollar enterprises that sells products and provides training and education for markets around the world.
~

~
I'm sure you're familiar with this guy here. haha. That's me! One of the speakers in the not-too-distant future! Well, that's my aim of course...
The reason I took this photograph was because I wanted something I could use to visualize my goals of becoming a speaker at this convention in the future (if they ever hold it in Malaysia again).
~

~
This is MinLi and I...aspiring to be invited speakers for this convention in the future.
~

~
This again is MinLi and I, with Ms. Judith Williamson, the Director of the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center at Purdue University. Met up with her a couple of months before the convention. She's a very warm, nice and beautiful person. Oh yeah, she was also my evaluator for my Science of Success (SOS) program that I did with Napoleon Hill Associates (NHA). This photo was taken at the Gala Dinner on the 2nd day of the convention.
~

~
This is me with Mr. Henry Holden. He spoke on one of Napoleon Hill's 17 Success Principles: 'SELF-DISCIPLINE'. His talk was really inspiring. To see a man on crutches doing much more than what a normal human being can do with their normal bodies...Seeing him on crutches got me thinking...."If he can do all the things that he has done despite his disabilities, I can surely accomplish whatever I put my mind into! If I can't, SHAME on me!"

A brief introduction to the inspiring Henry Holden:-

Having contracted polio in 1952, Henry Holden walks with cruthces and wears a leg brace. Yet, he has done much more than the average individual. Having a physical disability to most people would stop many from their dreams and aspirations, but certainly not Henry. Henry lives by his slogan "Attitudes are the Real Disability". With much self-determination Henry has accomplished many of his dreams.
~

~
This is Me with Mr. Martin Dunkerton, the director of the film "Miilionaire: Awaken Your Secret". He had his world-premiere screening of his inspiring documentary here in Malaysia, in conjunction with the Napoleon Hill International Convention at Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

Here's a little bit about him:-

Award-winning freelance BBC director Martin Dunkerton has gone from filming documentaries about the homeless to nearly becoming one himself. After spending all his savings waiting for a big break with a Hollywood screenplay, Dunkerton returned to London almost bankrupt and questioning his faith in life itself. His life changed when a friend gave him 'Think and Grow Rich'. Dunkerton had an epiphany: What if he could retrace Napoleon Hill's mission to understand sucess? Could he apply Hill's principles and make a million dollars with a film based on a book written in 1937?
~

~
This is me with Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones. He's one of the most interesting persons I have ever come across. He truly is Tremendous! He was hugging me so tightly I could hardly breathe *Gasp*Gasp*...It was such a relief when he let go off me....haha... He's one extraordinarily humourous person....and the speed at which he speaks...Super Fast! Like a bullet train...He spoke on the "Keys to Success".

A little bit about this Tremendous speaker:-

Charlie Jones expresses the keys to success in straightforward, common sense language. His book, 'Life is Tremendous', has sold over 2 million copies in 12 languages, and he has lectured to thousands of audiences around the world. Mr Jones is an expert in leadership and uses his talents as a humorist to break down his listeners' barriers while teaching his motivational message.

Charlie entered the insurance industry at age 23, by 39 his organization exceeded US$100,000,000 in sales, at which time he founded Life Management Services, to share his experience through seminars and consulting services. For more than fifty years, his purpose and passion has been exciting people to read, think, & share.
~

~
And finally, this is me with Dr. William R. Wright and his wife... Dr. Wright was my instructor when I did the Distance Learning program with the Napoleon Hill World Learning Centre. He's a very positive person and is an extremely encouraging instructor / mentor. I've really learnt a lot from him throughout the program. My understanding of the 17 principles of success as outlined by Dr. Napoleon Hill was greatly strengthened by Dr. Wright during the 15 weeks program. Will be forever thankful to him...

MDeC Training Program - UTAR PJ (Batch 2) - (Part 4)

GRADUATION CEREMONY

Students who undergo the MDeC Soft Skills Training program are required to plan, organize, and run their own graduation ceremony, and the event is normally done on the last day of the program. We trainers were also invited to the graduation ceremony and I would have to say that I was really really impressed with the way they organized this event. As mentioned in one of my earlier postings, I couldn't believe that the whole event was actually organized by the students. They did an absolutely fantastic job! The program flow was done very well and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We took alot photos during the ceremony...but I can't possibly post everything here...or else it would take me forever to finish this posting. Anyway, here are some of the ones I'd like to share with you readers...so, enjoy!

~
This is Ms. Yap Siew Ting, the organizing chairperson...and here she is saying a few words on behalf of the students...I remember her well because she's always smiling during the training =)
~

~
"OK...this is how u hold the weapon! and this was how my sifu (mentor), Bruce Lee taught me to hold it..." haha...this is the first group showcasing their Creativity & Innovation project. It's actually a Multipurpose Umbrella...which can also be used as a walking stick for old people...of course, there are other functions for this umbrella...but we're not going to go into the details...
~

~
More explanation regarding their invention...
~

~
This is Frank, the model and spokesperson for the 2nd group. Here he is, showcasing his group's invention, the Multipurpose Jacket. This jacket can be worn as a normal day to day use jacket...but in the event of a flood, this jacket can be inflated and converted into a life jacket, which will help keep you afloat and prevent you from drowning. If I'm not mistaken, this jacket can also protect the person wearing it from getting burnt in the event that a fire breaks out.
~

~
This is the 3rd group with their invention...the Electric Handbag...The idea behind this handbag is to electrify those snatch thieves who attempt to snatch your handbags...by activating the alarm on the handbag, you can actually 'fry' your assailant. (interesting idea...just don't accidentally fry yourself when using this handbag...)
~

~
This is Frank again....sharing his testimonials and experiences during the past 15 days...
~

~
This is Poh Kee...one of the engineering students from UTAR. A very bright young man...I remember his name very well because he shares the same name as my grand father...
~
~
This is Ms. Jamie Tan sharing how much she has benefitted from this program...we've since become good friends...she is one young lady who really believes in the spirit of giving, giving and giving...she's such a selfless giver....I've learnt alot from her...she has not only taught me the real meaning of sharing and giving...she has actually shown it to me by walking her talk...Thank you so much for enlightening me...
~
~
This young lady, Ji Leng has got such a beautiful voice...here she is...mesmerizing the crowd with her song....I forgot the name of the song, but it was a malay song. She can really seriously sing!! and her voice is really powerful!....so...anyone of you want a singer to perform at any of your functions...just give me a call...I'm her self-appointed manager...you can deal with me...haha...
~
~
'Kacang Putih... Ikan Bilis... Pisang Goreng... mari mari mari....siapa cepat...dialah yang dapat...' this was part of the sketch the students performed....
~
~
This was a really interesting sketch...with one of the students...Willy, acting as an aunty...he even altered his voice to sound like those aunties in the market...*salute*!
~

~
This was towards the end of the graduation ceremony...they sang a song and dedicated this song to all the guests who attended their ceremony...
~
~
Look at their happy smiley faces....
~
~
Here they are again...in a much more relaxed mood....how come I wasn't in this picture?*regret*
~
~
The students with the trainers after the ceremony
~
~
I have no idea when they took this photograph...but they looked really cute!!! haha...
~

~
Another one of those cute photographs....they're really creative when it comes to taking photographs...I would never have thought of taking photographs in this manner! haha...interesting...
~
~
These 2 beautiful ladies taking photos in front of the backdrop....If I'm not mistaken...they actually painted the backdrop themselves...very NICE!!!
~
~
What's the guy doing at the back there? This was supposed to be an all girls photo!
~

~
And finally, the last photo for this batch....this is actually a photo taken during the karaoke session...they went for a karaoke session after their graduation ceremony. We trainers were asked to join in, but being 'old' people....we decided not to...haha...
~
I've learnt so much from this batch of students. They have taught me alot of things I didn't know I didn't know (this is what we call "unconscious incompetence" meaning...you do not know what you do not know)...and they have allowed me to grow and improve myself as a trainer. The feedback I received from them allowed me to understand my weaknesses and this in turn allowed me to further improve my training methodologies.
Would like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to the students and to let them know that I'm EXTREMELY PROUD of them!

MDeC Training Program - UTAR PJ (Batch 2) - (Part 3)

CREATIVITY & INNOVATION

The next module we had was 'Creativity & Innovation'. This is a 4-day module, aimed at helping students understand what Creativity is, how to apply Creativity in Problem Solving and Decision Making, and most importantly, how to Think-Out-Of-The-Box when solving problems in their daily lives and professional lives.

~
Look at how serious the students are...There's no need to be so serious! Relax and have fun!
~

~
After lunch during the 2nd day, one of the students, Frank, "Volunteered" (or rather..he was volunteered, to be more exact) to entertain us with a song. He gladly came to the front of the class to showcase his talents...he started slow...but as he continued...the class started joining him...one by one his friends joined in...and very soon...the whole class was singing together...holding hands and waving their hands in the air. Too bad I didn't get a photograph of that. But it was truly a wonderful sight, I must say!
~

~
Creativity is about making things / tasks better and faster. So, here we have one of the students, Siew Ting, learning how to fold a T-shirt in under 3 seconds. Amazing?
~

~
Another student giving it a go...
~

~
This picture was taken during the 3rd day of the program...during the 'EGG game'. This is the first group...showing off their masterpiece...a structure made of straw and some masking tape. This structure is supposed to break the fall of an egg which will be launched from a height of about 7-8 feet.
~

~
The 2nd group showing off their masterpiece...look at how elaborate their structure is! It's extremely stable...thanks to the 2 engineers in their group...
~

~
And finally, this is the 3rd group...this group is full of Creative energy because they have 7 girls and only 1 guy in the group (in general, girls have more creative energy in them, whereas guys have more logic and reasoning power).
~

That ends this posting...next, we're going to see the students in action during their graduation night...so, stay tuned!
